Northeastern Boys Win TEC Game at Tri

LEWISVILLE, Ind. – The Northeastern boys basketball team took another step to a Tri-Eastern Conference title on Saturday with an 89-46 win at Tri.

“I thought we fought through some mental and physical fatigue early to get a solid win for 20 conference victories in a row,” Northeastern Head Coach Brent Ross said.

Ranked third in Class 2A, Northeastern is now 17-3 overall and the only unbeaten team left in the TEC at 5-0 after winning three games in the last four days.

The Knights had four players in double figures with Tyler Smith topping the list with 21 points. The other Northeastern players were Bailey Stewart with 16 points, Nate Reynolds 13 and Robert Smith 11.

Masen Phelps scored 16 points to lead Tri (5-12, 1-4).

Tri HighCarson Cox tossed in 12 points for the Titans.

Northeastern won the JV contest 50-48 as Quinton West hit the game-winning 3-pointer for the Knights.

Tri faces another ranked squad on Tuesday as the Titans entertain Class 1A No. 3 Seton (18-3).

The Knights are back in action on Friday at Winchester for a TEC contest.
