1994 Post-Season: Indians at White Sox G2

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

The Chicago White Sox beat the Clevelnd Indians 3-0 grabbed a two games to none advantage in the American League Championship Series.

Game three of the best-of-seven series in Cleveland features Alex Fernandez (1-1) on the mound for the White Sox, while Indians counter with Charles Nagy (1-1).

Although Jack McDowell (1-1) needed help in the ninth, he picked up the win for the White Sox allowing eight hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

With one out in the top of the ninth, McDowell gave up a single to Eddie Murray and double to Manny Ramirez before he was relieved by Paul Assenmacher.

Assenmacher fanned Jim Thome before retiring Sandy Alomar on a grounder to end the contest.

The affair was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Lance Johnson smacked a triple off Cleveland starter Dennis Martinez and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ron Karkovice.

A solo shot by Tim Raines in the seventh put the White Sox in front 2-0.

In the eighth, Frank Thomas sent Martinez to the showers with a double. Jose Mesa took over and walked Julio Franco and surrendered a RBI single to Darrin Jackson for Chicago’s final tally.

Martinez (1-1) was charged with all three Chicago runs on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
