1994 Post-Season: Braves at Reds G2

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

Jose Rijo tossed a four-hitter as the Cincinnati Reds evened the National League Championship Series at a game apiece with a 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

While Rijo was dominating the Braves, Kevin Mitchell provided the offense for Cincinnati with a solo homer off Greg Maddux in the seventh inning.

Rijo (2-1) allowed two singles to David Justice in the second and fourth, while Mark Lemke singled in the third and Ryan Klesko singled in the sixth.

The Cincinnati right hander fanned 13 Braves and walked Fred McGriff after Klesko’s hit. Rijo struck out six straight after walking McGriff. He also recorded at least one strikeout of all of the batters in the Braves lineup.

Maddux (1-2) limted the Reds to three hits as Barry Larkin singled in the first and Deion Sanders singled in the sixth. Maddux struck out three and walked two.
