The Detroit Tigers became the last team to qualify for the semifinals in the 1964 Tournament.

Al Kaline provided some offensive punch and Mickey Lolich tossed a three-hitter as the Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 3-0 in Comiskey Park.

With the win, the Tigers will make a visit to the New York Yankees for their next game.

Kaline hit a solo homer in the third off Chicago starter Juan Pizarro before adding a RBI double in the eighth.

Detriot’s final tally was later in the eighth against Pizarro as Norm Cash hit a sacrifice fly.

Chicago reliever Eddie Fisher got the last out of the eighth, while Hoyt Wilhelm added a scoreless ninth for the White Sox.

Lolich (1-0) went the distance for Detroit with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Hershberger led off the game with a double for Chicago. Floyd Robinson and Bill Skowron both singled in the seventh, but Lolich fanned Dave Nicholson to end the threat.

Pizarro (0-1) surrendered six hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
