CENTERVILLE, Ind. –
Centerville goalkeeper Cassidy Weiss announced her intention on Thursday to continue her soccer career at Defiance College.

“I have always enjoyed soccer,” said Weiss, who is currently on the softball team and just finished her basketball career. “The older I became the more I realized the love I have for the sport.”

“Soccer not only taught me life lessons that I might need in the future, but it also allowed me to create multiple friendships that will last a life time,” Weiss continued. “I can honestly say that my senior year was the most memorable because we bonded as a team more than we ever have.”

The Bulldogs were 8-4-3 under first-year head coach Logan Thompson.

“Having a new coach that believed in every single person on the team helped us become the 2017 sectional champions,” Weiss said. “I will never forget that cold, rainy night, knowing that I was able to bring another sectional title to Centerville.”

A Div. III school in Ohio, Defiance competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference under head coach Jenny Vincent.

“It seemed like the best fit and option for me,” said Weiss said. “It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m wanted.”

Thompson agreed.

“Cassidy’s desire to perform at a high level will certainly benefit her in the next step of college soccer,” Thompson said. “Her combined ability and drive makes her a delight for coaches and teammates alike.”

The daughter of Derek and Dawn Weiss, Cassidy had six saves in the sectional title contest against Union County that the Bulldogs won on penalty kicks.

“Cassidy brought a winning mindset,” Thompson said. “Her care and support for her teammates enabled them bring their best effort. Cassidy’s skill as a goalkeeper will be very difficult to replace, but I think we will miss her energy and passion for the game the most.”

Weiss is ready for the transition.

“Defiance is also known for its Athletic Training Program, which is the path I want to take for the future,” she said. “I know the high school level to the college level is a big jump, but I’m ready for the opportunity.”

“All the times I have been to Defiance, I have felt welcomed more and more,” Weiss added. “My future teammates have made me feel apart of their big family. I was able to joke with them and laugh with them like I was already on the team. It has always been a dream of mine to play college soccer and knowing that it is coming true means so much to me.”
