CENTERVILLE, Ind. –
Hagerstown and Centerville both moved on Wednesday with victories during the opening night of the Centerville Baseball Sectional.

The Tigers defeated Lincoln 20-0 in the first contest, while the Bulldogs followed with a 14-2 win over Northeastern.

“Offensively, we’ve talked about being aggressive at the plate,” Hagerstown Head Coach Brad Catey said. “In the last week, we’ve come along. We had a lot of good at bats.”

Hagerstown had 20 hits in the contest with Cameron Purtha leading the way with three to go with six RBI.

Cody Swimm, Trent Weiss and Drew Pyle each had two hits and two RBI.

Clay Cochran, Noah Dale and Owen Golliher also finished with two hits.

For Lincoln, Hunter Willhite had two hits and Evan Roettger had one.

Brady McMillan got the win for the Tigers as he tossed two innings with six strikeouts. Derek Davis and Pyle also helped in the shutout.

While the Tigers were aggressive at the plate, Centerville put its base runners in high gear.

“We were super aggressive on the base paths,” Centerville Head Coach Tracey Crull said. “We put pressure on their defense all night long.”

Dante Torres had a pair of stolen bases and Chris Pritchett had one, but the Bulldogs often were able to take the extra base forcing mistakes.

“That made the difference,” Crull said. “They were on their heels.”

Pritchett led the Bulldogs with three hits as he drove in three runs.

Michael Brewer added two hits as Nolan Witte and Tommy Fordonski both knocked in two runs.

For the Knights, Justin Bane had a two-run single in the fourth inning as Witte gave up six hits with seven strikeouts.

“Nolan pitched a gem of a ball game,” Crull said.

Colton Alexander worked five innings for Northeastern with 11 strikeouts.
