Knights Win TEC Contest at Centerville

Northeastern’s Emma Wright led Northeastern with 13 points against Centerville.

CENTERVILLE, Ind. –
Northeastern’s girls basketball team picked up another Tri-Eastern Conference win on Friday as the Knights defeated Centerville 49-23.

“It’s been really nice to see our development throughout the season,” Northeastern Head Coach Princess Darnell said. “We were concerned going into tonight because we didn’t have our full varsity squad. Our underclassmen and JV kids stepped up. They did some really good things.”

The Knights led 12-7 after the first quarter.

“We came out and started well,” Centerville Head Coach Jason Searcy said. “This team just needs to be more consistent.”

Northeastern’s defensive pressure made a difference.

“We were getting through it, but we were making long passes and those are easy to deflect and take away.”

The Knights led 24-10 by halftime and then 36-17 at the third stop.

“We have to be intense on defense,” Darnell said. “We have to force turnovers and score off them. The girls have done a great job of being disiplined and focused.”

Emma Wright led the Knights with 13 points, while Madi Clay finished with 11. Jenna McFarland added 10 points.

Alex McFarland topped Centerville with 11 points.

Northeastern (3-4, 2-1) entertains National Trail on Saturday.

Centerville (3-6, 1-2) is back in action at home against TEC for Union City (2-6, 0-2) on Wednesday.
