HagerstownHAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown boys basketball team opened the season on Tuesday night with a 51-44 win over Jay County.

It was the 100th victory for Hagerstown coach Bobby Jones.

“A great team win, Jones said. “The kids buckled down in the second half and defended much better.”

The Patriots led 9-4 at the first stop and then 21-14 at the half.

The Tigers closed the gap by the end of the third to 35-30 before scoring 21 points in the final period to post the win.

“We started to gel much better offensively in the second half and did a better job of attacking the basket,” Jones said.

Jalen Oliver led the Tigers with 13 points and six rebounds, while Isaiah Neal and Trent Weiss finished with 11 points each.

Jared Andis tossed in seven points and like Neal, he grabbed five rebounds.

The Tigers (1-0) return to action on Saturday at Cowan.
