Golden Falcons Win on Road

FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – The Winchester girls basketball team ended its regular season on Monday night as the Golden Falcons defeated Northeastern 67-25 in Larry Moore Gymnasium.

“It was a good night,” Winchester coach Holly Gutierrez said of the Tri-Eastern Conference victory.

“We played unselfish team ball,” she added. “Hopefully, going into the tournament we can play our game and pull off some wins here.”

Next up for Winchester (17-5, 6-1) is the Class 2A sectional in Fountain City as the Golden Falcons face Centerville in the second contest on the opening night of the tournament next Tuesday.

“We’re excited to get the girls ready for Centerville,” Gutierrez said. “It’s good for us to have the advantage of playing here recently.”

Winchester senior Sierrah Love agreed.

“That’s really going to help us go through the tournament,” Love said. “The chemistry of this team is better than any team I’ve ever been on. If we just keep positive and cheer for everybody that’s on the floor, we’ll do great things.”

Maddie Lawrence scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the opening period as the Golden Falcons built a 27-8 advantage at the first stop. Winchester led 40-14 by halftime.

Kira Robinson tossed in 14 points and grabbed team-high six rebounds for the Golden Falcons. Hannah Graft had eight points. Kelly Graft added six, while Love, Shelby Miller and Becca Chamberlin had five each.
