Centerville Posts TEC Win Over Union County

CentervilleCENTERVILLE, Ind. – The Centerville baseball team celebrated Senior Day on Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Tri-Eastern Conference foe Union County.

“This is a special group,” said Centerville Head Coach Tracey Crull, who has been the only mentor for the Bulldogs during the tenure of seniors Justyn North, Jack Willis, Ricky Torres, Devin Christian and Logan Moistner.

The Bulldogs are gaining momentum as they head into the upcoming sectional tournament.

“Momentum is a scary thing, but it’s nice when it’s on your side,” Crull said of his team’s three-game winning streak that includes the Wayne County Tournament title.

Centerville got started early on Wednesday as North knocked in the first run of the game with a single in the bottom of the opening frame.

In the second, the Bulldogs scored twice on a single by Nolan Witte and a bases loaded walk to North.

On the mound, Witte went the distance for the Bulldogs as he gave up five hits in posting the shutout.

Matt Stamper led the Bulldogs with two hits as he scored two runs.

Preston Scott led the Patriots with two hits.

Mook Shepler got the loss for Union County as he tossed five innings.

Union County (14-8, 4-3) entertains Oldenburg on Thursday, while Centerville (10-9, 5-2) is back in action at Shenandoah on Monday.
