Bulldogs Win TEC Opener

Carlie Doolin scored 20 points to lead Centerville to a 55-36 win at Knightstown on Nov. 18.


KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. –
The Centerville girls basketball team earned its first Tri-Eastern Conference victory on Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated Knightstown 55-36.

“I thought they came out ready to play,” Centerville Head Coach Jason Searcy said. “(Friday’s) game really prepared them to come here and play.”

The game was tight early until the Bulldogs scored six straight points late in the first period to go on top 14-3 with just a minute left. The led 14-6 at the end of the quarter.

After leading 28-18 at halftime, the Bulldogs pulled away in the third as they built a 45-27 advantage.

“That spurt we had in the third quarter was probably the best series of minutes we’ve played all season, Searcy said. “They were ready to shoot. They played really well.”

“They were attacking the basket,” Searcy continued. “They were beating their people off the dribble and getting to the rim.”

Carlie Doolin led the Bulldogs with 20 points as she grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kailee Tedder had 14 points and Cassidy Weiss added 10 points with seven rebounds.

Molly Coomes had eight rebounds with Alex McFarland pulling down six.

For the Panthers, Maggie Smith led the way with 13 points.

“Lack of effort, lack of intensity on the floor hurt us,” Knightstown Head Coach Charity Smucker said. “The bottom line is we’re still figuring it out. We’re going to keep pushing and keep trying and we’ll get there.”

Kaitlyn Jackson added seven points, 13 rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Lori Thomas finished with six points, five rebounds and five assists. Dharma Holder had five points and four rebounds. Rena Witham had six rebounds and 2 steals.

The Panthers won the JV contest 37-19 as Alexis Howard had eight points and Katie Clark added seven.

Emily Tedder led the Bulldogs with six points.

Centerville (2-4, 1-0) entertains (Lincoln 2-1, 0-0) in a TEC affair on Tuesday, while the Panthers (1-3, 0-3) welcome Tri High (2-2, 0-2) to Knightstown for a league on Wednesday.
