Bulldogs Advance in Sectional

LIBERTY, Ind. –
It may have taken two days, but the Centerville girls softball team finally advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2A Union County Sectional.

The Bulldogs defeated Winchester 2-0 as the opening round game was competed on Tuesday night.

Centerville faces Hagerstown in Wednesday’s second contest following the host Patriots and defending champion Northeastern.

On Monday, Centerville was on top 1-0 with one out in top of the fourth when a downpour forced a postponement until Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had scored in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Grace Delay.

When the action resumed on Tuesday, Centerville pitcher Shelby Koch got the final two outs of the fourth,

Koch walked the first two Winchester hitters in the fifth before Delay went to the mound and got out of the jam.

In the sixth, Delay led off for the Bulldogs with a double. Cassidy Weiss knocked her in with a double to give the Bulldogs a two-run advantage.

Delay closed the door on the Golden Falcons as she worked a perfect seventh with two strikeouts to earn a save.

Koch got the win by working four innings with four strikeouts, while Delay was credited with three frames as she fanned six.

Delay and Koch both had two hits for the Bulldogs.

Brooklynn Hummel amd AusLynn Turpin had Winchester’s hits.

Rhamey Fetters went the distance for the Golden Falcons giving up both runs on nine hits.

Winchester finishes the season at 6-16.
