Baseball History: 2020 Modern Era Inductees?

Editor’s Note: There will be a Season Ticket podcast available soon that will have a discussion of all the candidates.

Who gets in?

There are 10 individuals who have an opportunity to be added to the list of members of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Press Room Pass selected Marvin Miller, Thurman Munson, Tommy John and Dave Parker as its four choices for the 2020 induction class from the Modern Baseball Era ballot.

Voters on the Modern Baseball Era Committee can select four of the 10 names on the ballot that had the greatest impact from 1970-1987.

Dwight Evans, Steve Garvey, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Ted Simmons and Lou Whitaker are the others being considered for induction.

The announcement comes Sunday (Dec. 8) on the MLB Network at 8 p.m.

With New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter probably being a near unanimous choice by the Baseball Writer’s Association of America, who will join him in the Class of 2020 in late July in Cooperstown.

Of the votes from Press Room Pass, Thurman Munson is going to be the best option from that group. The Yankees connection might help.

All of the nominees will likely divide the results, which it will make it difficult for anyone to reach the 75 percent needed.

Simmons and Whitaker would be next in line along with the controversial Miller. For the others, they will be waiting for that ultimate call in the future.
