Wilcy Moore‘s dominance continues for the 1927 New York Yankees.

Moore has not been scored upon in 28⅓ innings as he helped the Yankees to an 8-0 win as they avoided a sweep by the 1968 Detroit Tigers, who won the first two contests of the three-game series.

The one-hit victory gives Moore an 8-0 mark with an ERA of 0.36. This season, he has eight complete games along with two scoreless relief appearances, while allowing three runs.

Against the Tigers, Moore retired the first 15 batters before he surrendered a single to Bill Freehan, who led off the sixth inning. He finished with a season-high nine strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter.

The Yankees got things going early against Detroit starter Joe Sparma with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Earle Combs led off with a double and he later scored on a triple by Mark Koenig. Babe Ruth‘s sacrifice fly brought home Koenig to make it 2-0.

Sparma’s last inning would be the second as the Yankees picked up three more runs. Koenig had his second RBI triple before Ruth knocked him in again, but this time with a homer.

Ruth smacked a solo shot off Pat Dobson in the fourth as the Yankees led 6-0. Ruth now has 16 homers this season with 44 RBI.

Dobson would get tagged for another long ball in the eight as Pat Collins hit a two-run blast.

The Yankees open a four-game series at home against the 2005 Chicago White Sox as George Pipgras (4-2) gets the start for New York against Orlando Hernandez.
