The 1927 New York Yankees scored early and often on the way to a 12-3 victory over the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

After scoring four times in the first inning, the Yankees had their dozen runs by the bottom of the fourth against Chicago starter Mark Buehrle and Damaso Marte.

Babe Ruth had a two-run homer to get the scoring underway as Bob Meusel followed with a RBI single and Joe Dugan added a sacrifice fly.

The Yankees doubled their advantage to 8-0 in the second. With two outs and the bases loaded, Meusel and Dugan both had RBI singles before Buehrle’s day ended with a walk to Pat Collins that produced another run. The final tally came on another free pass to starting pitcher Wilcy Moore as Marte took over on the mound.

New York’s offense wasn’t finished in the third as Ruth tagged Marte for a solo homer, which was his second of the contest and 57th of the season.

Lou Gehrig and Tony Lazzeri had back-to-back doubles to give the Yankees a 10-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Yankees got a run-scoring double by Earle Combs before Ruth capped the frame with a sacrifice fly.

Moore (17-9) retired the first 11 hitters he faced before Jermaine Dye singled with two outs in the fourth inning. In his complete game effort, Moore didn’t walk a batter as he gave up eight hits with six strikeouts.

All of Chicago’s runs came in the ninth inning as a tired Moore wanted to finish the affair.

Carl Everett had a RBI double, while Joe Crede blasted a two-run homer before Moore got the final out.

George Pipgras (14-8) will start for the Yankees in the finale of the five-game set, while Freddy Garcia goes to the mound for the White Sox as the season series of 22 contests between the two squads also comes to an end.
