Panthers Open Sectional with Victory

FAIRLAND, Ind. –
The Knightstown girls basketball team opened the Class 2A Triton Central Sectional on Tuesday with a 58-36 victory over Indianapolis Howe.

The Panthers (4-18) advance to Friday’s semifinals against Triton Central (18-4) at 7:30 p.m.

Shenandoah (16-6) vs. Eastern Hancock (14-9) play in the first game on Friday at 6 p.m. The winners meet for the title on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Knightstown had an 11-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter and the Panthers increased their margin to 25-15 by the intermission, After three periods, Knightstown was on top 44-29.

Kaitlyn Jackson led the Panthers with 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jessica Butler added 10 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

Lori Thomas contributed nine points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Maggie Smith had five points, while Emma Moore had three points and two rebounds.

Rena Witham finished with two points, but had seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Alexis Howard had two points and five rebounds.
