Five runs in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as the 1927 New York Yankees beat the 1968 Detroit Tigers 7-0.

Leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Yankees ousted Detroit starter Mickey Lolich as they put the game away.

Lolich walked Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig to begin the rally before Tony Lazzeri smashed a three-run homer for his 26th long ball of the season.

With Lolich still in the contest, Johnny Grabowski sent the pitcher to the showers with a two-run blast that was his second homer of the year.

Pat Dobson replaced Lolich and got out of the inning, but he would allow New York’s final tally in the seventh when Gehrig drilled a solo shot for his 37th homer. Daryl Patterson finished for Detroit with a scoreless eighth.

Gehrig’s RBI single in the fourth inning provided New York’s first run in the affair.

Urban Shocker (19-4) went the distance for the Yankess as he gave up eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Wilcy Moore (17-9) gets his last start of the season for the Yankees in the finale of the four-game series against Detroit, while Tigers manager Mayo Smith hands the ball to Joe Sparma.
