1994 Post-Season: Indians at Yankees G3

Editor’s note: The 1994 playoff games are being played with Strat-o-Matic cards and dice. The designated hitter will be used for the American League contests as well as when those teams are at home during the World Series. Injuries will only be used during the game when they occur. For this tournament, the rules include a three-man pitching rotation using the best lineups available.

Paul Sorrento had four hits and knocked in three runs to help keep the Cleveland Indians alive in their best-of-five American League Division Series.

With a 7-0 victory over the New York Yankees in game three, the Indians look to tie the series in the fourth contest with Dennis Martinez (0-0) on the mound facing Jimmy Key (1-0).

Sorrento produced the first tally of the affair with a RBI double in the second inning off New York starter Melido Perez.

Cleveland scored five times in the fifth to oust Perez.

Kenny Lofton drove in a run with a double. Omar Vizquel added to the lead with a single that scored Lofton.

Two batters later Eddie Murray had a sacrifice fly before Sorrento sent Perez to the showers after drilling a two-run homer to make it 6-0.

Carlos Baerga‘s solo homer in the ninth off Sterling Hitchcock capped the contest for the Indians.

Not to be outdone, Cleveland pitcher Mark Clark (1-0) scattered seven hits in going the distance, while blanking the Yankees with two walks and two strikeouts. Cleveland’s defense helped the cause by turning four double plays.

Perez (0-1) left with two outs in the fifth after giving up six runs on 10 hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Hitchcock went four frames allowing the homer and three other hits. Terry Mulholland got the final out with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.
