Tommy Greene may have needed some help at the end, but the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies reached the championship game of the 1990s Diamond Gems Tournament thanks to the righthander.

The Phillies posted a 2-1 victory over the 1990 Cincinnati Reds to punch their ticket to the finale against the winner of the 1990 Pittsburgh Pirates at 1993 San Francisco Giants.

Greene (1-0) left the mound with one out in the ninth after Eric Davis broke up the shutout with a solo homer to cut the Reds deficit to a run. Greene gave up five hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Mitch Williams was called in from the bullpen and he retired Hal Morris before giving up a double to Chris Sabo. However, Joe Oliver grounded out to end the contest.

Wes Chamberlain put the Phillies in front in the second inning with a RBI single off Reds starter Danny Jackson (0-1), who would work seven innings allowing five hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts.

Philadelphia picked up its final run in the eighth against Norm Charlton. Mariano Duncan walked and then scored on a triple by Dave Hollins as the Phillies led 2-0.
