LIBERTY, Ind. – The Centerville wrestling team defeated Union County 72-12 in a Tri-Eastern Conference match on Wednesday.
“When you wrestle another TEC school, you’re wrestling for positions and seeding,” Centerville coach Mike Day said. “Our mindset was to do as best we could for next week’s seed meeting,”
Centerville’s A.J. Taylor began the night with a pin of Blaze Lamb at 120 in 3:19. Mason Peed followed with a pin at 152 of Braden Weston in 1:19. At 285, Lucas Buchanan won with a pin of Michael Jones in 1:15.
“I’m pleased with our effort,” Day said. “(Tuesday) we had our best practice of the year. Our intensity level was up and we are starting to progress. We’ve got good leadership my seniors. We’re getting better.”
Winning by forfeit the Bulldogs were Tyler Vredeveld (106), Maison Hadley (113), Danny Clark (126), Nigel Vance (132), Morris Gibbons (138), Elijah Phillips (145), Guy Rednour (170), Alfredo Calderon (182) and Collin Snyder (195).
Prior to Union County’s final home match of the season, senior Joe Haarmeyer was honored.
On the mat, Haarmeyer pinned Peter Basford in 5:09 at 220..
“I’m glad he won,” Union County coach Dan Briggs said. “He listened to us when he needed to. That’s important.”
Union County’s Tucker Coffman also won by pinning Alec Runyon at 160 in 3:01.
“Tucker’s been solid,” Briggs said. “He’s been doing that all year. He did what we needed him to do.”
“We’d like to see it a little bit closer in the other matches and not get pinned,” Briggs added.
The Bulldogs are at the Tri High Invitational on Saturday. The Patriots return to action at the TEC Meet on Saturday, Jan. 21.
