Titans Win Opener with Indians

Tri High’s Alex Melton hands off to Nick Wilson.

LEWISVILLE, Ind. –
Tri High survived a sluggish start as the Titans opened the season with 26-18 win over Union City.

“You’ve got to give a lot of credit to Union City,” Tri Head Coach Andrew Totheroh said. “That’s a very improved football team.”

“In the first quarter, we weren’t ready to play,” Totheroh added. “We were extremely flat. A win is a win, no matter how ugly or pretty it is.”

Union City Head Coach Mike Thompson felt a dozen penalties were too much to overcome.

“We saw some really good things, especially on the defensive side,” Thompson said. “The mental mistakes and shooting ourselves in the foot to the point where really took ourselves out of position to be successful.”

“We played hard,” he added. “That’s just not good enough. They had good field position most of the night and we made so many mistakes.”

Nick Wilson for 185 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Titans on offense. Drew Mondrush added a one yard score.

Alex Melton was 6-for-15 for 100 passing yards, which included a 43-yard scoring strike to Seth Butler.

Union City quarterback Trevor Thompson completed 9-of-18 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns to Kyler Purdin. Purdin had four grabs 104 yards.

Nick Wells led the Indians with 57 yards rushing.

Tri (1-0, 1-0) visits Centerville for another TEC affair next Friday, Union City (0-1, 0-1) entertains crosstown rival Mississinawa Valley.
