Boys Golf Regional Preview

The Tri-Eastern Conference will be represented by two teams and a pair of individuals on Thursday as the boys golf competitors converge on the Players Club in Yorktown for the regional hosted by Muncie Central.

Hagerstown and Centerville both qualified with teams from the Richmond Sectional on Monday.

“We’ve just got to reset ourselves,” Hagerstown Head Coach Billy Mullin said after the Tigers finished second in the sectional. “It’s a total different golf course.”

It is the third straight trip to the regional for the Tigers, who were 12th last season.

“It will play more to our advantage because it’s more open,” Mullin said of the differences between the sectional and regional courses. “It’s more of a power-hitter’s golf course.”

After finishing third in the sectional, the Bulldogs are making their first appearance since in the regional since 2014.

“Our goal is to play as well as we can,” Centerville Head Coach Roger Martin said. “We’d like to finish in the top half.”

Centerville was 16th of 18 teams in its last regional.

“We’d to improve on that,” Martin said. “We’d like to have somebody able to score make it back to state.”

Mason Rader, who will be playing in his fourth regional, advanced to the state meet a year ago.

The two individuals remaining are Mason Melton of Winchester and Konner Fabrick of Tri.

“I’m excited,” said Fabrick, who earned a second straight regional ticket on Monday at Forest Hills in Richmond.

“I’m not too worried about that course because its not near as difficult as the one we played (on Monday),” he said. “I’m looking forward to playing with all of these great people that I’ve gotten to meet over the past couple of years.”
