Tigers, Bulldogs Advance to Regional

Hagerstown finished second in the sectional at Richmond on June 5.

RICHMOND, Ind. – Hagerstown and Centerville’s advanced to the next round of boys golf state tournament on Monday after finishing second and third in the Richmond Sectional at Forest Hills Country Club.

Richmond won the sectional title with a 325, while Hagerstown was second with 335.

“Three straight years in a row we have made it to the regional,” Hagerstown Head Coach Billy Mullin said. “We now have the current longest streak of the teams in this sectional.”

“It’s a little bittersweet because we came here to win,” Mullin added. “The kids competed. They gave all they had, we just came up a little short.”

With third-place finishes, Carson Orr and Caleb Cochran lead the Tigers as both carded an 81. Luke Lannan was next with an 86 and he was followed by Kevin Beeson with 87 and Kyle Cochran with 92.

Centerville finished third in the sectional at Richmond on June 5.

Centerville was third with a 354 as the Bulldogs join the other two squads to compete in Thursday’s Muncie Central Regional at the Players Club in Yorktown at 8 a.m.

“This was one of our goals, to get out of sectional and qualify for the regional as a team,” Centerville Head Coach Roger Martin said. “They worked through it. Last Thursday coming in for the preview, they were a little bit discouraged and disgusted with themselves with the way they played.”

The Bulldogs were nine shots better on Monday.

“We did enough to get there,” Martin said. “We weren’t great, but we were good enough. I’m really pleased with that. I’m proud of what they’ve done this year.”

Mason Rader led the Bulldogs with an 84, while Skyler Benedict had 85, Josh Duke a 91, Aydan Koyles a 99 and Sam Roberts a 102.

Union County finished in a tie for fourth with Connersville at 371. Northeastern was sixth with 387. Tri was ninth at 460 and Lincoln 10th at 495.

Tri’s Konner Fabrick advanced to the regional for the second year in a row.

Individually, Tri’s Konner Fabrick moved on for the second straight year.

“It’s a pretty good feeling, but honestly I was disappointed with my overall score,” Fabrick said. “I could have done a lot better. I’m glad I get to go for the second year.”

Fabrick had an 87 to finish in a tie for second with Dalton Lee of Connersville among those on non-qualifying teams. The top three individuals advance. Cole Carmony of Rushville had an 84 to lead that group.

“It’s one of those things,” Fabrick said about the course. “It tests our skills.”

Richmond’s Jake Miller was the medalist with a 71, while teammate Jarrett Focht was second with a 78.
