Titans Win Third Straight Regional Title

Tri defeated Daleville 11-1 to win the regional on Tuesday, May 30.

LEWISVILLE, Ind. – Another streak continued for the Tri softball team on Tuesday night as the Titans downed Daleville 11-1 to win their third straight regional title.

“I’m very happy of course with this being my senior year,” said Jesse Spong, who has battled an arm injury all season.

“This is a huge accomplishment not just for our county, but our school in general being as small as a school as we are a lot of people doubted us in the past,” added Spong, who was Tri’s starting catcher the last three years. “To be able to come out and be four-time sectional champs, three-time regional champs, we’re putting a big name on our school and it feels really good to be a part of that.”

The sixth-ranked Titans (24-3) face No. 2 Frontier (26-2) in the Class 1A Frankfort Semistate at 1 p.m. No. 10 Morgan Township (23-3) meets South Central (19-7) in the opener at 11 a.m. The championship is set for 7 p.m.

“Our girls do a good job of getting locked in when it’s time to play,” Tri Head Coach Bryan Peggs said. “It’s more like a business thing. Lock in and let’s go.”

Payton Moore followed her perfect game in the sectional title game against Randolph Southern with four more innings without allowing a base runner against the Broncos.

Moore lost the opportunity for back-to-back perfect games when she surrendered a homer to Daleville’s Kristin Zimmers, who led off the fifth.

“She really doesn’t sit there and think about it,” Peggs said.

Moore then retired the next three hitters to finish with eight strikeouts for the contest.

“She locked it back in and went back to business,” Peggs said.

Tri grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI ground out by Lauren Bouslog and sacrifice fly by Kierstyn Conyers.

In the third, Bouslog had a run-scoring double and Kirsten Falck knocked in another with a single to make it 4-0.

The Titans scored five times in the fourth to put the game out of reach before finishing it in the fifth.

Moore led off with a triple and Bouslog walked and swiped second to set the stage for Falck’s game-ending two-run single.
