Patriots Blank Connersville

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. – The Union County baseball team opened its season on Monday with a 4-0 victory over Connersville.

Mook Shepler picked up the win for the Patriots with four innings on the mound as he gave up two hits with eight strikeouts.

Mason Miller followed with a pair of scoreless frames and Caleb Green finished the shutout with one inning of work.

Nate Webb led Union County with three hits.

Miller had a RBI ground out in the second to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, Shepler walked to start a three-run rally. Cameron Donovan followed with a double.

Webb’s single scored both runners to make it 3-0. He later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Leighton Schulte.

Union County (1-0) faces Rushville at home on Thursday.
