Tigers and Patriots Take TEC Championships

Hagerstown had five runners earn all-conference honors by finishing in the top 10 as the Tigers ended with 22 points. Lincoln was next with 72 followed by Winchester with 80.

“It was solid for us,” Hagerstown Head Coach Kent Gray said. “We wanted five in the top 10 and that’s what we got.”

The Tigers also had the individual champ as Mason Bledsoe won the boys race with a time of 17:08.

“He ran a smart race,” Gray said of his senior, who also won the event as a sophomore. “He used the hills a little bit to his advantage.”

Bledsoe was pleased with his performance, but missed running against defending champ Gabe Beatty of Northeastern, who was injured.

“I was happy with it,” Bledsoe said. “It was kind of bittersweet. I like winning, but I wish Gabe would have been here.”

The other Tigers in the top 10 were Alec Hicks in third, Kaleb Slagle in fifth, Jevon Osborne in sixth and Logan Tuttle in seventh.

Joining the Tigers on the all-conference team were Camden Abernathy and Lee Owens of Winchester, Austin Wampler and James Pugh of Lincoln and Quinton West of Northeastern.

Union County had three runners on the girls All-TEC squad.

“It was wonderful day,” Union County Head Coach Alan Bell said. “Our training has been going real well. We prepared well.”

Samantha Crowe and Samantha Ramey were first and second as individuals.

Crowe had a time of 20:26.7 to claim the title, after finishing third a year ago.

“I didn’t have the best time, but I still did pretty good,” Crowe said.

However, Crowe’s coach was happy.

“Sam ran really well,” Bell said. “She didn’t hit exactly the pace I wanted her to get. There was nobody close, so it was hard for her to get under 20. There are so many topographical changes it does mess with the kid’s pace.”

Ramey posted a time of 21:21 for the Patriots, while Anavey Antrim was sixth with a time of 22:25.

Union County won the event with 27 points, while Hagerstown with 46. Centerville was third with 55.

The other members of the All-TEC squad for the girls were Logan McRoberts and Anna Shafer of Hagerstown, Bayleigh Appleby and Molly West of Tri, Kayla Newman of Centerville, Sophia Spence of Union City and Brooke Covert of Winchester.
