Golden Eagles Post Comeback Victory

LincolnLIBERTY, Ind. – The Lincoln football team scored a pair of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter on Friday night as the Golden Eagles rallied for a 30-28 victory over Union County.

The Patriots led 28-16 after Aaron Daggy scored on a 26-yard run early in the final stanza before Lincoln answered in the Tri-Eastern Conference affair.

Lincoln quarterback Nick Cupp started the comeback with a 1-yard run. He hit Byrant Hilbert with a pass on the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 28-24 with 5:16 left to play.

When Matt Fields scored on a 3-yard run, the Golden Eagles took the lead for good with 2:33 remaining.

Building the Lead

Union County grabbed an early advantage in the opening period when Isaac Bentley reached the end zone on a 25-yard run. On the two-point conversion, Ryan Hensley caught a pass from Caleb Greene and it was 8-0.

At the start of the second quarter, Jeremiah Holder had 2-yard touchdown run for the Golden Eagles and Cupp passed to Blaine Cowan for two points to tie the contest at 8-8.

Moments later Greene scored on a 9-yard run and then Cameron Donovan on the conversion to make it 16-8. Just prior to halftime Greene hooked up with Hensley for a 15-yard score and the Patriots led 22-8 at the intermission.

In the third, Cupp completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chase Southerland to close the gap to 22-16 after Lincoln added the two-point conversion.

Fields led the Golden Eagles with 151 yards rushing. Cupp completed 6-of-13 passes for 99 yards. Southerland had two catches for 47 yards. Holder also had two grabs for 26 yards.

Daggy finished the contest with 115 yards on the ground. Greene was successful on 12-of-25 pass attempts for 97 yards. Donovan had five receptions for 47 yards.

Defensively, Holder led the Golden Eagles with seven tackles, while Southerland added six stops.

Joe Gentry topped Union County with nine tackles with Zach Weston finished with eight.

Next Friday, Lincoln (1-5, 1-3) entertains Union City (2-4, 1-3) and Union County (2-4, 1-3) visits Northeastern (4-2, 3-1).
