HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – The Hagerstown football team had a bog second quarter on Friday as the Tigers posted a 47-21 win over Winchester.

“Winchester is a really tough team,” Hagerstown Head Coach Scott Snodgrass said. “They’re physical and big. (Winchester Head) Coach (Mike) Jones does a fantastic job with them. We knew that this was going to be really tough. We caught some breaks there that helped us out.”

The first break the Tigers made on their own as Brandon Purtha blocked punt midway through the second period of the Tri-Eastern Conference affair.

Hagerstown led 7-6 after the first quarter and had just scored to go on top 13-6 with 9:11 left in the half when Purtha made a play that would set up another Tiger touchdown.

Mason Hicks scored on a 4-yard run with 8:02 to go and the Tigers were in front 19-6.

Later in the second, Owen Golliher scored on a 2-yard run and then he tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to David Castle as the Tigers built a 33-6 halftime advantage.

“Cudos to Hagerstown,” Jones said. “They deserved to win this football game. They were better than us up front.”

“We’ll find some positives,” Jones added. “We’ve got to get better. It’s a process.”

In the second half, one bounce went Hagerstown’s way. Golliher was running for a first down when he was hit and fumbled. Hicks grabbed the ball and scampered 40 yards for a score to give Hagerstown a 40-6 lead.

“I was in the right position at the right time,” Hicks said.

The Falcons were able to close the gap with a pair of scores in the fourth quarter. Austin Lawrence ran for a touchdown and then threw one to Tyler Edwards to make it 40-21 with 8:54 remaining.

Hicks finished the night for the Tigers with an 88-yard score late in the contest. He had 160 yards on 16 carries.

Golliher added 86 yards on the ground and was 6-of-11 for 92 yards in the air.

For the Falcons, Lawrence was 8-of-24 for 140 yards.

Hagerstown (2-1, 1-0) is Northeastern next Friday, while the Falcons (1-2, 0-2) entertain Union County.
