Patriots Dominate in Fourth Period

Union CountyLIBERTY, Ind. – The Union County football team scored 40 points in the final period on Friday as the Patriots stormed past Oldenburg 48-18 in the season opener for both teams.

The Patriots led 8-6 after three quarters before their offensive onslaught began.

Aaron Daggy had a 48-yard run for the first score and Nate Webb ran for the conversion and it was 16-6.

Oldenburg closed the gap to 16-12 before the Patriots answered with a 10-yard run by quarterback Caleb Greene and a conversion by Isaac Bentley to up their advantage to 24-12.

The Twisters scored again to make it 24-18, but that was as close as they could get as the Patriots finished the game with three straight scores.

Greene, Daggy and Tucker Coffman all had rushing touchdowns as the Patriots put the contest away. Webb, Bentley and Chase Thompson added two-point conversions.

Bentley scored Union County’s touchdown in the second period and added the conversion to put the Patriots on top for good at 8-6.

Daggy led the Patriots with 238 yards rushing, while Greene added 49 yards. Greene completed all five of his passes for 20 yards as Cameron Donovan led the way with three grabs for 19 yards.

Joe Gentry led the Union County defense with nine tackles, Blake Fields and Coffman had interceptions. Zach Weston recovered a fumble.

Union County (1-0) is at Monroe Central next Friday. The Golden Bears defeated Centerville 42-6 on Friday.
