FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – The Centerville girls tennis team claimed its seventh straight Tri-Eastern Conference crown and 19th overall on Monday at Northeastern.

The winners of 52 consecutive conference matches, the Bulldogs were represented in three of the five final contests of the TEC Tournament.

“I felt like the girls who got to the finals did a really nice job and they really worked hard,” Centerville Head Coach Randy Ecker said. “Overall, they did what we needed to do. We needed to clinch with one position and they ended up with getting three. I can’t ask for more than that.”

Shelby Good clinched the title for the Bulldogs with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Lincoln’s Rachel Merida at No. 2 singles.

“It was really good feeling,” Good said of the decisive contest. “I knew Merida had two games to play today. I knew she was really tied, but she put up a good fight. I was proud to get it done.”

Good was the only player to complete two rounds on Saturday, so she had to wait until the finals to get on the court on Monday.

At No. 3 singles, Centerville’s Chloe Uphaus defeated Winchester’s Emily White 7-5, 6-4.

Centerville’s other win came at No. 2 doubles as Addie Walther and Morgan Guenther outlasted Northeastern’s Emily Fouche and Kasey Andrews 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Centerville had 51 points in the tourney and Hagerstown finished second in the event with 29 points.

Savannah Houck posted Hagerstown’s win in the finals in the top singles bracket with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Winchester’s Mariah Roberts.

“She wasn’t hitting well in the first match,” Hagerstown Head Coach Steph Beeson said. “She really rocked it in the last match. I’m very proud of her.”

Houck felt confident in her play heading into the finale.

“She is a great player,” Houck said of Roberts. “She made more of her own mistakes than me beating her, but I was definitely on my game. I had great net play and I’ve been working on that.”

Winchester was third with 22 points. Tri was fourth as the Titans captured the other win in the finals at No. 1 doubles as Kylie Dishman and Ali Vandivier beat Hagerstown’s McKenzie Fleming and Mekayla Todd 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.

The other team scores were Lincoln 14, Northeastern 8, Union County 3 and Union City 0.
