Centerville Girls Claim TEC Track Title

Centerville 2016 TEC

The Centerville girls track team won the TEC title on May 12, 2016.

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – What a difference a week makes.

The Centerville girls track team reversed its fortunes on Thursday night as the Bulldogs won their first Tri-Eastern Conference title since 2007.

“Last week at the Tiger Booster there were a lot of great teams that made us work,” Centerville Head Coach Mike Day said.

Hagerstown, which had won the last five TEC crowns, won the Tiger Booster with the Bulldogs finishing second.

“We did a lot better in the field events,” Day said. “We got crushed last week. For us to beat them is an honor.”

Centerville led the way with 144 points, while Hagerstown finished with 134. Winchester was third with 77 and Union County 70 was fourth. The rest of the field in order was Union City 47, Tri 37, Northeastern 32 and Lincoln 21.

Ashley Toschlog and Jolie Rusznak led the Bulldogs as they combined to win five events as individuals and two more on relay teams.

“It means everything to me,” Toschlog said. “We put all of our hearts out there on the track. “This moment couldn’t be any better. I’m in tears.”

Toschlog won the 800 (2:30.32), 1,600 (5:35.51) and the 3,200 (12:43.89). Her 1,600 time broke the school record 5:36 set by Shannon Kendall in 1999.

“It was really difficult,” Toschlog said of her events. “I just knew I had to do this for my team.”

In her other event, Toschlog and teammates Anna Hawk, Madilyn Coomes, Kayla Newman won the 3,200 Relay in 10:46.62.

Rusznak was first in the 100 Hurdles (17.67) and 300 Hurdles (52.55). Centerville’s 400 Relay squad of Maddie Riggott, Aubrey Davis, Rusznak and Sophia Neher won that race in 52.94.

“We wanted this more than anything,” Rusznak said of the title.

Hagerstown’s Aimee Hoodlebrink also won three events as an individual. She was first in the Long Jump (16’3 1/4″), 100 (13.67) and 200 (27.91).

The Tigers other win came in the 1,600 Relay as Paige Gray, Kaylani Dale, Beth Jenkins, Hannah Rogers won in 4:25.4.

Northeastern had two champions as Madison Adams won the Shot Put (33’2″) and Faith Stegall won the Discus (93’6 1/2″).

Winchester and Union City had one winner each.

Sydney Myers of Winchester won the High Jump (5’0″) and Sophia Spence of Union City took the 400 (1:02.59).
