Girls Tennis: Union City Season Preview

UC-Logo-Indians-(web)UNION CITY, Ind. – Union City Girls Tennis Coach Brittany Boyland welcomes back one senior and and four other returnees as the Indians prepare for the 2016 season.

“My expectation this year is to build the program more and to be able to bring home some higher team wins.” Boyland said. “Our team is full of new, developing talent ranging from a junior to freshman.”

“In just the short amount of practices we have had so far, I have seen great strides and improvements,” Boyland added. “I’m excited to see what they have to bring to our team this season.”

Tiffany Reagan is the only senior on the roster.

“With this being Tiffany’s last year, I really want to her to build confidence in herself and her ability,” Boyland said. “She has improved a lot since her first year with me and she just needs to work on consistency. She has really shown leadership this year with her team.”

Juniors Katie Rismiller and Allie Conklin return along with sophomores Emily Cline and Tiffany Edwards.

“All of my returning girls have improved a lot by working hard,” Boyland said. “They get frustrated with themselves because they know they can do better. That’s all I want to see, to know that they believe in themselves.”

Junior Elizabeth Sowinski and sophomores Breann Ward and Courtney Hofacker are new to the roster. The freshmen on the squad are Maria Casilla-Romero, Emalee Bocanegra and Sydney Ralston.

Union City’s opener against Randolph Southern was postponed on Thursday, April 7. The Indians travel to Adams Central on Monday, April 11.

The next night, Union City visits Lincoln for a Tri-Eastern Conference affair on Tuesday, April 12.

“I’m excited about conference,” Boyland said. “We face a lot of hardworking, great teams that I believe makes us better.”

“Last year, we weren’t able to make it out of the first round (in the sectional), but I still have seen a lot of improvements and I believe we did very well,” Boyland continued. “I would like to make it out of the second round, but for me, the improvements are what count.”
