Winchester Takes Title

GREENFIELD, Ind. –
The Winchester girls basketball team won a pair of contests on Thursday as the Golden Falcons claimed the title in the Greenfield-Central Invitational.

The Class 2A No. 6 Golden Falcons defeated the host Cougars 71-54 in the championship affair.

A fast start by the Golden Falcons led to a 22-9 advantage after the first quarter.

The Cougars closed the gap by halftime to 33-25.

In the third frame, the game got tight as Greenfield-Central nearly came all the way back as the Cougars trailed 35-34.

However, the Golden Falcons took off from that point and put the game away as they finished the period with a 58-37 lead.

Maddie Lawrence led Winchester with 24 points as Kira Robinson tossed in 16.

Hannah Graft finished with 14 points, while Shelby Miller added 11. Becca Chamberlin had six points.

Winchester began the day with a 66-29 victory over Hauser 66-29.

The same four players led the way in that contest as Lawrence finished with 20 points.

Robinson had 16 with Graft adding 12 and Miller 10. Chamberlin contributed seven.

Winchester (16-1) returns to action in the Randolph County Tournament at Union (Modoc) on Thursday, Jan. 4.

The Golden Falcons will face the winner of Wednesday night’s battle between Union City and Monroe Central.
