HAGERSTOWN, Ind. –
The Hagerstown girls basketball team picked up a 46-37 Tri-Eastern Conference victory over Centerville on Friday night.

“I was happy with the win,” Hagerstown Head Coach Chris Oliger said. “One thing we talked about all week was that we’ve got to get better shots and not just run up and down the floor.”

After starting with an 8-3 deficit, the Tigers scored 10 straight points to build a 15-11 advantage after the first quarter.

The Tigers continued their success in the second frame as they widened the margin to 22-11 by the 5:06 mark.

However, by halftime Centerville had closed the gap to 26-21.

“Our kids competed really well,” Centerville Head Coach Jason Searcy said. “It just seemed like every time we started making a run, the important possessions, we would give up an offensive rebound or have an unforced turnover. When you are in a game like that you can’t have things like that.”

Hagerstown upped its lead to 39-27 after the third period, but Centerville battled back to cut it to 41-36 with 2:21 to play.

The Tigers were able to hold on as Madison Brown made four free throws in the final minute and a half.

“We tried to get the ball to Madison down the stretch because she’s our best free throw shooter,” Oliger said.

Hallie Rogers led the Tigers with 20 points, while Brown finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Kassidy Oliger added seven points, while Taylor Kelley had six points.

For the Bulldogs, Alex McFarland led the way with 11 points and Carlie Doolin added 10.

Cassidy Weiss contributed six points. Lexi Harmon pulled down five rebounds.

Hagerstown (6-5, 3-2) travels to Lapel (5-4) on Saturday.

Centerville (4-8, 1-4) gets a visit from Blue River (7-2) on Tuesday.
