Knightstown Boys Basketball Preview

Knightstown Head Coach Dusty Magee talks to his players during a practice at the Hoosier Gym.

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. –
Dusty Magee enters his second season as the Knightstown boys basketball coach as the Panthers join the Tri-Eastern Conference.

“I love it,” Magee said. “There are a lot of good teams and coaches. It’s nice for the kids to be able to have something to play for.”

Jarred Porter, Tucker Personett, Owen Wiles, Dallas Edwards, Lane Parker, Tyler Burton and Garrett Thomas are seniors for the Panthers.

“We’ve got a mixture,” Magee said of his roster. “We’ve got guys who understand what we want to do, but there’s a lot of new guys. Trying to get them up to pace to what we what we are doing is right now probably the toughest thing for us.”

Jose Olivo and Treavor Cook are juniors on the roster, while Chase Burton, James Lukens and Jack Fort are sophomores.

“I’m kind of looking forward to playing against other guys,” Magee said. “We’re kind of interchangeable.”

“We can switch things,” Magee added. “That’s something we didn’t have last year.”

Personett is the top scorer back at 8.3 PPG. Olivo tossed in 4.4 PPG.

“We lost 57 percent of our scoring, so how in the world are we going to score,” Magee said. “We’re going to have to do it by committee. We’re going to be OK defensively because we have kids who want to compete.”

The Panthers open the season at home on Wednesday against Tri High, which is also a TEC affair.
